About the Staff

Nigel Hollings:

Nigel is one of the founding partners who formed Howarth and Hollings in 1988. He is passionate about Conveyancing since doing this role from a young age. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his wife and children and enjoys seeing his friends.

Nicola Howarth:

Nicola is a partner in Howarth and Hollings, since starting the firm in 1993. Nicola is determined to see every transaction through and loves her job. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her children and their dog Annie, going on lots of walks.

Diane Spencer:

Diane joined Howarth & Hollings in 2006 as a Conveyancing Assistant.
Having left school, she attended a Secretarial Course at Keighley College, where she obtained her RSA1, RSA2 and RSA qualifications. She then worked for 23 years for a Local Keighley Firm of Solicitors as a Conveyancing Secretary/Assistant.
She is our friendly, efficient Office Manager and Assistant to Nicola Howarth providing invaluable support to the Department, ensuring the whole process of moving home as stress-free as possible.
Out of work, she enjoys walking, going to the cinema and spending time with her family.

Bethanie Petty:

Beth joined Howarth & Hollings in 2016 as a Conveyancing Assistant, having worked in both Residential and Commercial, as well as Equity Release, in Leeds for some years prior.
Before starting her career, she obtained a LLB Hons in Law with Criminology and is currently studying for her CLC qualification.
When she does have free time, she spends time with her partner and their cat, Badger, as well as baking, cooking and trying to learn French and calligraphy.

Beth will be on maternity leave from the middle of December 2019 until further notice.

Sonia Hussain:

Sonia is currently working for Nigel in assisting the Senior Partner and joined the firm Howarth & Hollings in 2016. Prior to this she acquired a law degree (LLB Hons) in 2014 and is currently now studying her LPC (Legal Practice Course) and MSc at the University of Law to qualify as a Conveyancer/Solicitor.
Sonia is currently broadening her experience and knowledge in assisting Nigel in the field of conveyancing and wishes to specialise in the field of conveyancing once qualified. Sonia enjoys working closely alongside Nigel by becoming more involved in dealing with a range of legal matters within the firm.
Sonia’s spare time is devoted to studying and shopping!

Jo Alvey:

Jo joined the team in July 2019 as a Legal Assistant to Nicola Howarth.

After leaving school her career started at Bradford & Bingley Building Society, working there for many years, within various departments, mainly HR department.  She then went on to work for Athena International, travelling around the country as a sales representative, which enabled her to visit and enjoy the beautiful country we live in.   Jo then went on to work at The Green Partnership Estate Agents, also for many years, leaving there to work at Oxenhope School for a few years, when her Daughter attended there, then returning to the Green Partnership, up to joining Howarth & Hollings.

Jo enjoys regular visits to the gym, attending various classes especially spin. Whenever she has any other precious spare time, she enjoys making special memories with her two adult children, Joseph and Ellie.

Sarah Fernley-Ackroyd:

Sarah joined the firm in September 2019 to work for Nigel Hollings as his Legal Assistant together with Sonia Hussain. Sarah has worked in property since 1998 dealing with both commercial and residential property transactions both in Leeds and Bradford, before Otley more recently.

In her spare time Sarah enjoys spending time with her fiancé and two children, going to the gym, cooking and reading.  During the summer she and her fiancé love getting out and about on their motorbike and travelling to the Isle of Man to watch the TT races.

Helen Garner:

Helen joined the Residential Property Department in January 2019 as a Legal Assistant to Nicola Howarth.

She has worked predominantly in the financial sector since 1999 taking on various roles within various departments including the Legal Department for 8 years. She then took on a secretarial role for a law firm dealing with Commercial Property for a short period of time before leaving to go on maternity leave in June 2017. Having had her baby she decided it was time to get back in the workplace and was fortunate to be offered the role with Howarth & Hollings.

Helen is a keen on keeping fit, attends numerous classes at her local gym and swimming. She also is keen raising money for charities by taking on challenges like the Yorkshire Three Peaks numerous times and other outdoor activities. She also enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, holidays and eating out.

Shirley Hollings:

Shirley has worked for the office on and off since the firm began in 1988.
Shirley is our valued receptionist dealing with phone calls daily, as well as archiving files and doing immeasurable general office duties.
When Shirley is not working, she enjoys spending time with Nigel’s and hers daughter, together with going to watch Wigan Athletic with their son.

Somia Hussain:

Somia has been with Howarth and Hollings as a junior since September 2016.
Somia was born in Germany and comes from a small town called Oberhausen. She has been living in the UK since 2003 and learnt the English Language in primary school. After studying her GCSE’s, she came to Howarth and Hollings and is gaining a vast amount of experience in the property sector.
She has a huge interest in football, predominately the World Cup, since watching at a young age and loves listening to music, especially Pop and R&B.

Vanessa Bodin:

Vanessa is our Legal Cashier and has been so since 2016. She has worked within the Legal Accounts Sector for over 13 years, having worked in some large firms. She deals with all financial transactions, and also aids staff on HR Matters.
She has two children who she loves spending time with, taking them swimming and going on long walks. She also loves cooking and reading and is also studying her AAT Level 3.
